Free Cascade

This is another one of those thank-goodness-I-get-multiple-copies-of-the-Sunday-Paper posts.  Sorry, but I really like my newspaper subscription.  Here's the details:

For the last couple of months we have gotten a $1.00/1 ANY Cascade coupon in the P&G insert.  One P&G insert per month.  I've been taking that coupon and buying these little trial size packets for $.97 at Walmart.  The coupon covers the cost of the packet plus some.  There is a limit on the coupon of 4 like per transaction so it takes a couple of weeks to use all I have.  I average 6 or 7 copy's of the paper so that's a lot of free dishwashing detergent.

If you'd like to get in on all the super fun coupon action send me an email and we can get a class set up for you (frannyfrugal @ gmail.com).  For subscription deals to the newspaper check out this post.

Project Gutenberg

If you've ever downloaded a book from the internet for free chances are it was from Project Gutenberg.  They boast over 33,000 FREE titles (and you know how much I like the word free).  The e-books are free because the book's copyright has expired.  You'll find classics such as:

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Just to name a few.

Most e-readers can use the Project Gutenberg files.  Itunes offers them through their iBooks application and Amazon's Kindle has them as well.  The books are listed under *FREE* (he, he, imagine that).  More info for your specific readers here.  But, you can also read the books online from your computer without any special equipment.  Just cruise their catalog here and follow the directions for reading online.

Don't know where to start?  They have a handy Top 100 books downloaded.

I just downloaded American Frugal Housewife by Lydia Maria Francis Child a homemaking manual from the mid-1800's.  I'm just a few pages in and already I'm starting to realize how easy we have it.  My household will never take that much work, but I'm finding excellent tips and quotes to use and share.

Plus, a ton of their books are available in audio files for those of us too busy to sit down with a good book.

Well, what are you waiting for?  Go download and read a book!

(Nope, no paid advertisement.  I just love what they're doing over there.)

$2 Amazon MP3 credit

My favorite deal for the day:

I got the song When You Say Nothing At All by Alison Krauss for free!

Use coupon code VDAYMP3S to add $2 to your account here. (You can't use the code at checkout, it has to be added to the MP3 Downloads page first.)

Select your favorite songs and download them at no cost.

My account still has $1.01 credit on it. What should I get...

Check out more free songs here, no code needed.

(This post contains affiliate links, which means I get paid to promote Amazon's products. Of course I’d be sharing the free music anyways because free is my favorite word.)

A case for multiple Sunday Papers

Here is an awesome example of why I buy multiple copies of the Sunday newspaper.

See all that dish soap?

I got it for FREE.

Walmart has the 11 oz. bottles of new Gain dish soap priced at $.97. And, since this is a brand new product line for Gain they sent out a $1/1 coupon, with no size restrictions, in the August 29th Sunday coupon inserts.

Using my many copies of that coupon I really stocked up on soap. Now I won't have to buy any for a long, long time. I can wait until another super-cheep-freebie-deal comes along, and I'll be using my free dish soap till then.

Multiple papers are great!

No Cost Date Night, Part 5

Here is the fourth installment of Date ideas. The only cost for most of these dates is possibly a few pantry items and/or gas money. If you are wondering what to do with the kiddos, check out part one of this series here. Read the full series here

34. Take a Walking Tour of a Historic Downtown area

35. Take a tour of the Capital building or other public office

36. Explore Model Homes in your area - You'll get great ideas for remodeling and decorating your own home, or ideas for your future home.

37. Make your own kite and see if it flies - For instructions check here. Bring along a picnic for an all day event.

38. Check out a gourmet or ethnic cookbook and make dinner together - The library is an excellent source of freebies and ideas.

39. Go sledding - No sled? Use a garbage bag or plastic tray.

40. Photo Shoot - Grab your digital camera, drive around town and make them goofy or artistic.

41. Go people watching at the mall - Window shopping works too. Just remember to leave the wallets at home.

42. Borrow a movie from a Neighbor - I'm sure your neighbors have movies you haven't seen. Trade them for one of your own.

43. Picnic in your living room - Very nice when it is cold and stormy outside. Add candlelight and soft music for a nice romantic dinner.

44. Drive around and look at Christmas Lights - We have some great displays around our town. People are so creative!

Well, that's all the date ideas I've compiled. I don't think it really matters what you do for date night, as long as you make each other the priority. Setting the time aside each week for your "date" and not letting other responsibilities get in the way helps a lot too. And, of course, you don't need to spend money to have fun and to enjoy each other's company.

So, plan your date, send an e-mail invite to your sweetie and have some free fun today.

IKEA - Free Breakfast

Friday, February 13th till Monday, February 16th get a free small breakfast and coffee (till 10:30am, 1 per customer). Read all about it here.

No Cost Date Night, Part 4

Here is the third installment of Date ideas. The only cost for most of these dates is possibly a few pantry items and/or gas money. If you are wondering what to do with the kiddos, check out part one of this series here. Read the full series here

23. Go bike riding - It doesn't have to be fancy mountain biking or anything.  Just dust off those bicycles (or borrow some) and wander around the neighborhood.

24. Bake cookies together - Then eat them of course!  Enjoy the time you have together.

25. Make bread - Do you know how?  I recently learned the Pantry Secrets method and love it.  My brother and sister-in-law got the same gift and he loves making all kinds of interesting concoctions.  Learn together.  The ingredients are cheap and it is a useful skill to have.

26. Visit a Free Art Museum or Gallery - Check your local phone book for these.  I know a local University in our area has a great display.

27. Take a hike up the Canyon - If there are no mountains where you live any nature walk/hike will do.

28. Check out an Astronomy book at the Local Library (or check out this web site here) and do some Stargazing - I've always wanted to learn the constellations.  Grab a blanket and a few snacks and you are all set.

29. Check out book on tape and listen together - Your local Library is a treasure trove of free activities.  Find out all the things they offer.

30. Play Frisbee Golf - We have a local park that has an actual Frisbee Golf Course, but you can create your own with an bucket or garbage can and some imagination.

31. Visit a public Garden - In our area there are a couple of "water wise" public gardens (since we live in the desert) and not only are they relaxing and interesting, but they are a great source of ideas for your own yard.

32. Test Drive your dream car - I'm sure your spouse has one of these go check it out.

33. Go sit in the massage chairs at a Furniture Store - This is one of my husband's favorite things to do when we are shopping for furniture.  Wander around the store comparing likes and dislikes then end the trip with a few minutes in the massage chairs.  Leave your purse at home so you aren't tempted to make any impulse buys.
